What Distinctive Thompson and Chelsey Perry might deliver to Indiana

The Indiana Fever added seven players to its roster in the WNBA Draft, but the two standout players are Unique Thompson of Auburn and Chelsey Perry of UT Martin. Thompson was drafted in the second round and Perry in the third round. Both players have the potential to be good WNBA players.
Thompson is a great rebounder with an average of 12.8 boards per game. In all four seasons, Thompson led Auburn on the rebound. She can also score marginally and in the post she scored 17.6 points per game for Auburn. The Tigers weren’t very good, but Thompson was a bright spot and could be an asset to the fever front. After her final season, Thompson made the All-SEC second team and WBCA Honorable Mention All-American.
Perry is one player I liked in this year’s draft. The fever that picked her up on the third round was a bargain. Perry can score the basketball – she averaged 22.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. The striker shot 52% from the field and 42% from the three-point land. Perry could be present in the post, stretching the floor with her outside shooting. She was the OVC Player of the Year for the second season in a row when she topped the conference in the standings. Perry is Martin’s front runner in career blocks with 228 UT. With 1,963 points she is the third of all times, with 733 the fourth in field goals and with 768 the fourth in rebounds.
Both Thompson and Perry have skills that can help Indiana, but with 20 players in Fever training camp and only 12 players to make the team, expect lots of good training camp battles to see who the 12 will be. Thompson and Perry need to do well in training camp to reach the final 12. I think both players are ready for it.
