The IUD feeding program is the nation’s main life-style
INDIANA, PA. – Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Bachelor of Science in Nutrition was ranked “Best Bachelor Degree” in the country’s top 16 programs by Study.com.
Only 50 programs were selected for the ranking, which examined hundreds of programs in the United States. Programs were selected for ranking based on faculty’s excellence, opportunity for student activities, graduation and tuition fees, and program flexibility.
The editors praised the IUD program for its “specialized nutritional pathway that combines basic nutritional concepts with specialized studies in an elective area such as biology, chemistry, economics, psychology, and more.”
The ranking also recognized the IUD’s track record in nutrition, which includes the training of more than 1,000 nutritionists and dietitians over the past 30 years. The IUP has also been commended for its nutrition internship opportunities and the numerous scholarships that are offered specifically to nutrition students.
IUP’s BS in Nutrition program offers two tracks: the Dietetics Track and the Nutrition Track. The Dietetics track allows students to choose either a culinary diet or a focus on food and health promotion. An undergraduate internship is an optional elective in dietetics and is required by food science students.
The IUP also offers major graduate degrees, as well as other students with degrees in other majors who qualify for coursework, the opportunity to apply for nutritionist through the Department of Food and Nutrition’s Masters of Science in Nutrition and Nutrition.
Statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics suggest that employment in the food sector is expected to grow by around 20 percent by 2020, a much faster pace than many other occupations.
IUP’s program is unique in that it combines classroom learning with practical application – hands-on community experience. The program is designed to bring students into the community where they can apply their new skills by volunteering and counseling families and individuals.
In addition to their faculty advisor, students in their major are assigned a faculty advisor who supports them in setting and achieving their career goals. In their first semester, students must also complete a one-credit class, which describes career opportunities and supports students in making optimal use of the library and the new learning technologies.
The IUP is consistently rated as one of the best PhD universities in the country by US News & World Report. It has been featured on the Princeton Review’s Best Colleges Guide for 18 years and was included in Washington Monthly Magazine’s national school ranking for its contributions to society.
IUP has also been selected for national rankings recognizing the value of online programs.
US News & World Report recognized three IUD programs – the Masters in Criminal Justice, the Masters in Math Education, and the Masters in Nursing for its Best Online Programs for 2021. EduRef.net, a national Recognized provider of higher education planning resources, IUP named “10 Most Affordable Accredited Online Colleges” for 2020.
