Summer season Research Labs for Marion County College students – WISH-TV | Indianapolis Information | Indiana climate
If you want to keep your kids busy this summer while you get them out of the house, this is it! Shannon Williams, vice president of community engagement at The Mind Trust, joined us today to tell us about this year’s Summer Learning Labs in Marion County.
Registration for the Indy Summer Learning Labs is now open to families and students entering grades 1-9 in the 2021-22 school year. The Indy Summer Learning Labs is a free five-week accelerate and enrichment program offered in more than 35 locations in central Indiana. The aim of the program is to take advantage of missed learning opportunities that may have resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Indy Summer Learning Labs not only register interested families for the program, but also actively recruit educators from central Indiana as teachers, coaches, helpers, and more. Teachers can earn up to $ 10,000 for the five week program plus one week of training.
It is estimated that students have lost up to a year of study time due to COVID-19, and intensive programs such as the Summer Learning Labs have shown that they make noticeable gains over academic and socio-emotional learning outcomes, especially among students from households with low levels Income .
The Mind Trust is an Indianapolis-based not-for-profit educational institution that is working to build a school system that will provide every Indianapolis student, without exception, with access to quality education.
