Spouse celebrates 112th birthday, turns into oldest dwelling individual in Indiana, says household

INDIANAPOLIS – Friends and family celebrated Sunday when Anna Byrdsong Garrett of turned 112.

According to the family, Garrett is the oldest living person in Indiana.

Garrett was born on July 26, 1908 and was the fifth of 16 children.

The family says she continues to live in the she has lived in for 55 years and spends her day sitting in her favorite comfy chair.

Garrett has two daughters and has worked as a domestic worker, at a hardware store, and at Butler University, the family says.

“Mrs. Garrett will tell you that she did everything and went everywhere she wanted,” wrote her niece Suzanne F. Stantley. “She traveled a lot and made many cruises. She never had a credit card, she paid for it all cash or used the 90 day option that was available as a cash option a few years ago. She and her husband owned two and she has lived in their current home for more than 55 years. She has never smoked or drunk. She had before two attacks of colon and skin cancer for many years.

“We welcome this grand dame supercentenarian, Ms. Anna Garrett, as she turns 112. She lived more than anyone would expect us to live by ourselves. ”
