A new Safe Haven Baby Box was unveiled in southern on Friday.

Baby box

The box was installed at the Bedford Fire Department in Lawrence County.

Baby boxes enable people to hand in a child safely and anonymously.

The padded box is air conditioned and an alarm sounds to let first responders know that a baby has been placed in it.

This box is 72nd in the country and 63rd in Indiana alone.

A newborn baby was safely dropped off in Clarksville just last month.

“The child’s parents made a decision based on love and grace,” said Brandon Skaggs, Clarksville fire chief at the time. “With a dedicated and resources available, this decision gave this child hope, love and a life.”
