Indiana sees main droop in sports activities betting grip in April 2021

The Indiana Gaming Commission recently released April sports betting numbers, and the state saw a sharp decline in the total sports betting handle. After a big month in April, a decline was expected, but it was below expectations.

The total sports betting handle for April was just $ 236.4 million, after rising to $ 316.7 million in March. The state’s sports betting benefited from the fact that the NCAA tournament was held in Indianapolis and the surrounding cities.

This represents a drop of more than 25 percent from Indiana’s impressive betting numbers in March, even though the total was almost reached in April 2021 800 percent higher than a year ago in April. Last year, most of the live sporting events were canceled due to the pandemic, and sports betting for retailers was also closed.

Mobile betting made up over 91 percent of total monthly trading, and this trend has been well established since the early months. The online sports betting handle fell to just $ 214.6 million from $ 286.8 million in March.

The Indiana sports betting market, while growing, has not seen a huge surge in numbers. Both WynnBET and TwinSpires were launched in Indiana in April, and Barstool Sportsbook is expected to go live in May.

The decline in total sports betting handles also had a negative impact on April earnings. Gross sports betting revenue fell nearly 24 percent to just $ 20.1 million.

It may be a few months before Indiana sees another big jump in this industry as this is usually a slow time for sports betting. Indiana will set a new state record for monthly handle, but it may not happen until the beginning of the 2021 NFL season.

Basketball, DraftKings still big winners

While the Indiana totals weren’t strong for April, there were some positive numbers in the IGC report. Basketball was once again the most betting sport and DraftKings continues to be the top online sportsbook.

Despite just three NCAA tournament games in April, basketball grossed a total of $ 76.1 million in sports betting. Parlay wagers accounted for more than $ 60 million as it continues to be a popular betting option.

Baseball will soon have to lead the sports betting industry in Indiana, and the sport had total sales of $ 44.5 million in April.

DraftKings Sportsbook made the most bets in April, but FanDuel Sportsbook wasn’t far behind. Ameristar East Casino has partnered with both DraftKings and theScore Bet, and the total sportsbook amount for this property was $ 79.2 million.

FanDuel Sportsbook achieved a sports betting handle of $ 67.1 million through a partnership with Blue Chip Casino. This company has spent some time as a market leader, but that’s no longer the case.
