Boone County Opens Pupil Vaccination Clinic – WISH-TV | Indianapolis Information | Indiana climate
Lebanon, Ind. (WISH) – Boone County’s Health Department opens one of the first student vaccination clinics in central Indiana.
The clinic is open to all students, regardless of where you live.
This will be one of three vaccination clinics offered to students by the Boone County Health Department. The clinic accepts walk-ups, but they prefer you to schedule an appointment.
The health department receives a shipment of the Pfizer vaccine, which is currently the only vaccine approved for people aged 16 and over. In order for a student under the age of 18 to receive the vaccine, they must have parental permission. And even with a signed permit, the health department will call the student’s guardian.
“You have to print out a permit form, sign everything and bring it with you. If we have a child, say, if a parent or guardian is unable to be with them, we will call the parent.” Claire Haughton of the Boone County Health Department said.
In the past few months, the county has offered the Moderna vaccine. And they’re almost ready to accept anyone 18 or older for walk-in appointments.
Mike Strode is from Lebanon and has three children in the school system, one of whom is in high school.
“We don’t vaccinate our children. Me and my wife are not vaccinated, it’s just our own pejorative. I’m not saying it’s good or bad on both sides, it’s just not now, ”said Strode.
According to the Indiana Department of Health, more than 45% of Boone County’s population over the age of 16 is fully vaccinated. That’s one of the highest vaccination rates in the country. The student clinic is considered the first of its kind.
“We will also be accepting people from other school districts. We could possibly be the only ones running such a clinic right now. When that’s the case, we really encourage people to make appointments because we don’t want to be overwhelmed, ”said Haughton.
The first clinic will be held this Saturday at Lebanon High School, the second on May 22nd at the Boone County Fairgrounds, and the third on June 12th at the Boone County Fairgrounds. Follow this link Sign in.
