Associated Hammond Hospital Closes – WISH-TV | Indianapolis Information | Indiana climate

HAMMOND, Ind. (Inside Business) – Kentucky-based Kindred Healthcare plans to close its Hammond facility. In a statement to the state, the company announced that Kindred Hospital Northwest Indiana will close its doors and lay off 110 employees due to the planned demolition of buildings on the Franciscan Health Hammond campus.

Kindred says that as part of Franciscan’s $ 45 million project, the space occupied by Kindred will be eliminated. In May, Franziskaner specified the plans to convert the 100-year-old facility with currently more than 200 beds into an acute hospital with eight beds, an emergency room and a primary care center.

The Kindred layoffs are expected to occur over a two-week period beginning October 10th. The company says the move will be permanent and none of the employees will be represented by a union.

In June, the Franciscan Alliance said more than 80 Hammond Hospital employees would be laid off, although some may be transferred to new positions. It is unclear whether Kindred employees will be offered new positions elsewhere.
