ARCADIA, Ind. (AP) – A car accident killed students from the Indianapolis area on their way to prom, authorities said.
The accident with two vehicles, in which two other students were also injured, occurred on Saturday around 5.15 p.m. One vehicle, a Honda Accord, had four teenagers. They were on their way to the prom of Hamilton Heights High School in Kokomo when their vehicle collided with an SUV. Both vehicles landed in a field.
The two deceased victims were identified as Lendon Byram, who was driving, and Kalen Hart, who was in the front seat.
According to the school, Hart was a senior at Hamilton Heights in Arcadia. Byram was a junior at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, according to the school.
Hamilton Heights School Corporation has canceled all prom-related activities and stated that grief counselors would be available at the school.
“Nobody expects something like this to happen, and when it does, an entire ward grieves,” said Superintendent Derek Arrowood. “Please keep these families and our students in your thoughts and prayers.”
