100 volunteers needed for the Junior Nationwide Diving Championships in Indianapolis – WISH-TV | Indianapolis Information | Indiana climate

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Volunteers are urgently needed for next week’s junior diving championships.

As News 8 found, the weeklong event is expected to attract hundreds of young divers from across Indiana and across the country.

Daryn Wright, 17, is a natural in the water. She has been diving for almost 10 years.

“I love the high it gives you when you get in the water. Standing up there at 10 meters alone, the adrenaline you get is just unreal. You don’t feel that anywhere else, ”Wright said.

She is just one of more than 500 people who will be attending next week USA National Junior Diving Championships In the IU Natatorium on the IUPUI campus.

“I’m so excited.” said Wright. “It’s been a long time since we had the Junior Nationals, about two years, and I’m really happy that they are back and competing.”

That Indiana sports corp needs people to immerse themselves in this competition for what is known as deck control and help them.

“There are a few things about the volunteering that make it a little more exclusive. First, you’re on deck with the athletes. Your role is to really determine who can and can’t be on deck, ”said Brett Kramer, director of public relations for Indiana Sports Corp.

Kramer told News 8 that they are looking for around 100 volunteers. You must pass a background check and complete a 90-minute safe sports training session.

“We are only looking for people who are excited, enthusiastic and willing to support us for this event,” explained Kramer.

Back at the IU Natatorium, Wright said this event was important and that it meant a lot for these young divers to have volunteers involved.

“It helps make the meetings run more smoothly. You can interact with anyone. The whole environment is just a fun environment. It’s just great to have the help, ”Wright said.

The competition starts on Wednesday.
